Made-It Monday: Cement Cake

Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something Iโ€™ve made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something youโ€™ve made in the last week (ish; letโ€™s say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things weโ€™ve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!

And now, at last, the birthday cake from a couple of weeks ago! I’ll be honest, the bottom half of this is a foam dummy ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

But when people only want you to make a pretty cake for 25 people i.e. one tier, and you have Artistic Vision ™, what else are you going to do?! ๐Ÿ˜€

So: the top half is a white chocolate mud cake with lemon meringue buttercream filling. The outside is vanilla meringue buttercream, the blue icing is, oddly enough, raspberry, because it’s the leftover filling from the wedding cake (pics next week), because I needed to put the blue on and let it set while I made the vanilla icing for the “cement” – otherwise I would have had to wait until the new batch was done, tint some blue, smear it on, let it set, THEN ice the whole thing. Using the raspberries leftovers meant I could do all that during the 30 mins the other icing was cooling.

(Actually, IIRC in the 35+ ish minutes of cooling time, I did the blue for this cake AND iced/decorated last week’s cake out of all the scraps and leftovers.)

So. White chocolate mud with lemon and a smear of raspberry. The topper is candy melts, because chocolate doesn’t like our current weather and tends to melt when out of the fridge for more than half a second ๐Ÿ˜‰ There’s some silver leafing around the edges of the ‘cement’ icing, and some funky lil metallic blue rod decorations I had lying around from this cake way back when. Thank goodness for years’ long expiry dates on things like that ๐Ÿ˜‰

The brief was navy + silver (probably), possibly cement-style icing, maybe with shards or something. This is what I came up with…

And now, what have you made this week? Donโ€™t forget to tag your contribution, or even better, leave a link in the comments!! I love seeing what inspiring things other people have madeย ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
