#MadeItMonday: Spice Jar Labels

Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something I’ve made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something you’ve made in the last week (ish; let’s say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things we’ve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!

So, we are still very ‘mid-renovation’ in the house, inverted commas because when it’s been going for 3 years who even knows what ‘mid’ means any more, and the kitchen is the current hub of activity, such that a couple of weeks ago I lost my original island bench, and it’s been replaced with a much larger, much sleeker new island bench, which currently only has half a makeshift benchtop but which is nevertheless a vast improvement on the original.

As a result, my spices have gone from living – well, on the top of the buffet (the chunky piece of furniture that holds all the good china and crockery), fully exposed to the elements, but before that it was up in a cupboard above the stove, so you could see the fronts of the jars, albeit only if you could reach the jars to shuffle them around and find the one you needed.

Have I mentioned I’m relatively* short at 5-foot-4-and-a-half?

* Very relatively, because I’m actually dead on average height for a woman in Australia, thankyouverymuch.

Anyway, they have now been relocated to their probable final resting place, which is a drawer, which I love because I don’t have to reach up way high in the sky to shuffle around and see what I have. To prevent, however, having to lift every single jar to see what it holds when searching for something, this week’s art project was making lil labels for all the jars to stick on their lids, inspired by labels a friend of mine had made.

I had rather a lot of fun decorating the labels, as you can see. Hurrah for functional art and beautiful utility!

I feel compelled to note that the middle image of the whole drawer is taken side on; the front of the drawer is at the left of the frame. Rawr.

And now, what have you made this week? Don’t forget to tag your contribution, or even better, leave a link in the comments!! I love seeing what inspiring things other people have made 🙂 🙂 🙂
