Happy 2023, my lovely people. I know, I know, it’s been 2023 for a little while now, but here we are. Here *I* am, for the very first time in my life starting a year without also starting the school year.
It’s weird, it’s disorienting… And it’s going to be good. Once I retrain my brain a little first π
Where to start? Oh, I have so many things to update you on <3
I’m writing regularly again. I’ll update you on that tomorrow and maybe even do a sneaky cover release, since this is a book I’ve had a cover sitting around for for… mmm, maybe nearly a decade now?
I’m redoing the website. Like, entirely. The last time I did it, I think more people still accessed websites on desktop computers than any other device, and that is CLEARLY not the case these days π So an update is in order to make her a bit sleeker and more function, and easier to access on mobile devices.
I’m expanding our catalogue’s reach! 2023 will be the year of Inklets in AI-narrated audio – you can find the first random handful on Google Play, and they will be available more broadly (including direct from me/Inkprint Press) later in the year. 2023 is also the year of HARDCOVERS. All the main Inkprint titles will be coming to hardcover throughout the year – including A Fox Of Storms And Starlight π (Except the Fox hardcover will be white, like the paperback – the black hardcover is still exclusive to the Fan Kits.)
Ooh, Fan Kits! That’s another thing that will be happening this year: a couple more Fan Kits added to the collection, and actual photography of the extant ones so you can see the pretty and be persuaded that you really, really need one, bwa ha ha ha.
And new books to release, of course. Hopefully a novel or two (more on that tomorrow I guess), but at the very least a non-fiction collection of essays on the symbolism of various paranormal creatures throughout history (how DID vampires get started? what DID werewolves initially symbolise, and how has that changed over time?), the beautiful hardcover collection of all 100 Inklets… and a book of poetry.
The poetry… I reread the book this past weekend to proof the print copy. It’s beautiful and raw and it’s all the pain and disorientation and confusion I felt leaving my entire identity behind when I left teaching last year, squeeze down into a diamond and polished until it sparkles, and then you tilt your head sideways and you realise that hey, okay: maybe there’s beauty in this season of change too.
…The cover for that one has been on Instagram in my stories, and I’ll post that here soon too.
So: many new things. New website, new books, new writing… A new season. And I think it’s shaping up to be a good one.
It’s good to be back. <3
