This week’s Inklet came out about a year ago, and it’s one of the shortest of the Inklets. (Speaking of which, stay tuned for some exciting Inklet-related news, coming soon!) Shoe is a modern dark fantasy/horror tale inspired by the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, ‘The Red Shoes‘, but without the significant slatherings of religious baggage that somehow I’d forgotten were there between reading it back in high school and rereading it in writing this post o.O (I didn’t reread it when I wrote ‘Shoe’, but rather based that on the aspect that had obviously stuck with me over the years.)
ANYWAY here is a short story that is similarly horrific to the original nothing like a lighthearted story where the main character is punished for their misdemeanors with death 😛 (Was this story written in my ‘all naivety is punishable, usually by death’ period in my early-mid 20s? Why yes, yes I think it was :’D)
…I’m selling this story well, right? :’D
Jenna finds an abandoned shoe on the side of the road, unaware that the shoe waits deliberately.
Inexplicably drawn to the shoe, Jenna takes it home.
But what the shoe wants from her? A price she never wanted to pay…
A short, chilling retelling of the Red Shoes fairy tale.
