Today, a random reminder that a bunch of my books are available with either Fan Kits or Fan Kit Minis!
What’s a Fan Kit (Mini), you ask?
WELL. LET ME TELL YOU, BECAUSE I AM EXCITED.
Fan Kits came from the idea of a book subscription box, which is where you sign up for your box-a-month and get a special edition of a book along with a bunch of themed items. The themes are usually general themes like mermaids, or secrets, or love triangles, or other such things, and the items that come in the box – like mugs, bookmarks, posters, socks, enamel pins, pens, ornaments, candles, etc – all have bookish references to popular books that share the theme of the month.
Enter Fan Kits.
Instead of a generic theme, our Fan Kits are themed TO THE SPECIFIC BOOK, which means all the items you get relate to the content of the book in some way. There’s a specific item that’s integral to the plot? Well JUST LOOK OUT because you might get your own version of that item too!
They are an absolute BLAST to put together, and I have SO much fun creating and curating all the items.
As a general rule, I try to hit as many senses as I can in each Fan Kit (Mini), so you can expect:
- A snack, either to eat or drink, relating to a taste or food/drink item from the book
- A scented product, like a soap or a candle, designed to evoke a key setting from the book
- A paper product, like stickers or bookmarks or an art print
- A letter from the author about the making of the book, with original/commissioned artwork on the back that links to the book
- The book, obviously – at the very least a signed copy, but with the novels it’s usually a special edition that contains bonus content you can’t get anywhere else (scenes from a different character’s point of view, annotations from the author, an extra epilogue, that sort of thing)
- A wearable item, often a pin, but some also have socks or costume jewellery items
- In the full Fan Kit boxes, another TWO fabulous items relating to the book; in the Fan Kit Minis, ONE other cool item that links to the book.
In general, the items in the Fan Kits are physically a bit bigger. The Fan Kits are about the size of a small shoebox and they are for Inkprint Press’s full-length novels. The Fan Kit Minis ship in a bubble mailer with slightly smaller items, and they’re for our shorter titles.
