Wow, still feels slightly surreal to be saying that. Usually I’m so deep into planning ahead for the following quarter that I get frustrated in September when diaries for the following year are hard to source (seriously tempted to spend a week creating my own, really, and just print a copy each year) and by December, I’m so deep in the following year that I have to keep double checking I’ve written the date correctly.
This year? Yeah, nope.
I guess something about 2020 (*cough, cough*) made planning for 2021 seem less… useful? urgent? plausible? than in other years, so here I am halfway through January, still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the date’s actually changed. You know. Like most people do. 😀
ANYWAY. Long preamble. On to the actual point… Which is that (yay!) my first Inklet short story for the year is now available! Ermagersh you guys, FIFTY INKLETS. WHOA.
Tower Of Souls is a short little piece set in a world that one day I hope to explore more fully. I have about three or four different stories started in this world, one of which has a couple of chapters in it, so maybe one day you’ll get to see more of the city Gossamer, organised around the Tower Of Souls where the souls of the dead gather each year until someone is chosen from the city to enter the Tower and lead the souls to their eternal rest.
Of course, most people don’t succeed…

Every year, the tower fills with the souls of the dead.
Every year, the city throws someone living in to lead the dead to the afterlife.
Few succeed. Most join the dead.
This year, it’s Freya’s turn.
A very short story about confronting your fears—and discovering hope.
