Wow, the weeks are flashing by this year! Not necessarily a bad thing, with all the global chaos going on.
It does mean I need to get a wriggle on though if I’m going to meet all my writing goals for the year š
In an ideal world, I plan to write A Stag Of Hope And Memory (the sequel to A Fox Of Storms And Starlight), Define Good (a novella focusing on some minor characters that comes chronologically after How Not To Acquire A Castle), How Not To Ring The Hero’s Bell (Kaditeos: Mercury #2), and keep picking away at Moon Shot, a middle grade science fiction shortish novel (probably about the same length as Through Roads Between?) that I promised my Year 8 class last year I’d write.
I also need to edit How To Map, since it’s up for preorder and coming out August 4, and I’d like to rewrite/edit To Lead As A Queen, a short novella (similar length to Trust Issues and Dreaming Of Forests).
Most of these won’t come out this year, even if I do finish them, because it takes quite a few months after I type ‘The End’ to do edits, formatting, proofing, and all the other sales-associated stuff that goes into Making A Book. But it would put me on track for a great publishing year next year š
It’s not wildly implausible: to get all of this done, I need to average about 5,000 words per week. That’s about three hours of good, solid, actual writing (which, for reference, an hour and a half at the computer usually equates to an actual hour of writing, because I write in short, 10 to 15 minute bursts with 2 to 5 minute breaks in between when I’m going well).
On the other hand, last year I wrote 85,000 words total. So.
(On the other-other hand, I am 100% definitely Not Sick like I was last year, and I’m working 80% of full time hours in my day job, which helps. A lot.)
The good news is, I started working on A Stag Of Hope And Memory this week š If you’d like to see the opening snippet, hit reply and let me know! If I get JUST ONE PERSON saying they’d like to see it, I’ll post it on Tuesday next week for you š š
So anyway, that’s how I am. How are you guys going?
