It’s taking me a bit to catch up from the craziness of this term, but I’m getting there. I have a couple more major things that need doing in the next two weeks (before I go to Vegas, OMG I AM GOING TO VEGAS IN LIKE JUST OVER A WEEK, ARGH!!!!) but once that’s done, my schedule looks much clearer until the end of the year.
Okay. I have one free weekend between now and 2019, but look: after Vegas, my schedule looks more like a normal person’s schedule, okay? It’s manageable. It’s not going to engender breakdowns on a fortnightly basis. I’m going to be able to sleep*.
In the meantime, SO much stuff is happening in the background. (ETA: Apparently this is the Post Of All Cover Reveals, so y’know, enjoy that :3)
1. A friend of mine is about to become an imprint-buddy, and I can’t WAIT to squee in public about his book, because YOU GUYS, AMAZING.
2. The dearest Twinny One Liana Brooks has her newest book coming out on Australia-Friday: The Polar Terror, a stand-alone addition to her popular Heroes and Villains series, is cute, adorable, and heartwarming. Definitely give it a try if you’re in the mood for a quick-read, feel-good romance with superpowers lite. Look, pretty cover!
3. My own next book is up for preorder! Long time readers will know the epic story behind my equally-epic worldbuilding handbook, From The Ground Up (and if you don’t, the story is mostly here, and you can also search #FGU). Well! Part one (which is actually parts 2 & 3 :D), called How To Create Cultures, is finally, FINALLY up for preorder!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU GUYS!!! IT IS A REAL THING!!! *dies* SO much research, SO much editing, SUCH a long time, and it! is! here!
Well. I mean, at least, it will be, on January 17 :3 <3 Look again: also cover!
4. Another longterm project (though nowhere near on the scale of FGU!) is also coming to fruition: Inkprint Press is starting up a line of standalone short stories called Inklets. They’ll be releasing twice a month, on the 1st and 15th of every month, starting 1 January 2019!
We have stories booked through to mid-2022 at this point, so YES: this will be a long-term, sustainable Thing. The stories are short, ranging from 700 words to about 5000 words at this point, and most of the first year’s worth are stories from the Darkness & Good blog/anthology, but they are CUTE and designed to be COLLECTIBLE, and you can get them for $2.99 in ebook, or $4.95US in print ($6.49AU, unfortunately, which is the rock-bottom minimum we can price them at) – and the plan is to have subscriptions available too so you can grab them all at a discount, and hopefully get cheaper print bundles and things too if you want them :3
Each lil chapbook will contain the short story, plus a ‘making of’ blurb, plus an illustration created just for that story, plus usually the first chapter of the author’s novel closest in tone to that story. The print editions are between 24 and 56 pages, though I know there are some coming later in the schedule that are a bit longer. So, they are tiny, and probably not for everyone’s budget, BUT THEY ARE CUTE, AND THEY MAKE ME HAPPY :3 :3 <3 :3 :3 <3 Moar covers (this is the 2019 line-up, which you can also see here):
5. Finally, my Patreon is getting an overhaul. I’ve been shamefully neglectful the last 8 weeks because I haven’t been writing, so next year there will be some tweaks, and at the bare minimum, you can sign up for $1/month and receive a brand new, never-seen-before short story. This will NOT be recycling old stories that are already available elsewhere; these will be NEW stories just for Patreon (though they will eventually become Inklets, months and/or years down the road depending on the schedule).
So yeah. Lots of stuff happening, and that’s just the few that come to mind right now. This life: it is cray-cray. But, despite the madness and lack of sleep and emotional overwhelmtion at times, I am so intensely grateful every day that I get to write, because creating things generally, but writing in particular, keeps me sane, and feeds my soul, and the fact that you are out there following along on this journey of mine is awe-inspiring. You are amazing, one of the best human beings, and I dare you to go create something too, because you can, and you deserve to: nothing matches making stuff. Nothing.
So! That’s all for now, though I’ll try to be back to regular blogging now. Thanks so much for being here; I love you.
Go make something. Mwah! :*
